Anglo American, the parent company of De Beers, has appointed industry outsider Stuart Chambers as chairman, the company announced Wednesday.
Chambers is a former chairman of UK-based technology group ARM Holdings and consumer-packaging firm Rexam, and has also served as a non-executive director at engineering company Smiths Group and British supermarket chain Tesco. Additionally, he has held senior roles at Nippon Sheet Glass, Mars Corporation and Shell, where he started his career as a chemical engineer.
He will join Anglo American’s board on September 1 as a non-executive director and chairman-designate, before taking on the position in full on November 1. He succeeds John Parker, who will step down as chairman after eight years in the role.
- Stuart’s breadth of global executive experience, in addition to chairing two FTSE 100 companies and serving on the board of several other international companies across the industrial, logistics and consumer sectors over the last 15 years, stands him in excellent stead, Parker said.
