Expanded assets portfolio India’s JSW Steel has won five iron ore mines in Karnataka with an estimated reserve of 111 million tonnes, and a coking coal mine with a total extractable reserve of about 30 million tonnes through an auction in Jharkhand.
The five iron ore mines are expected to produce about 4.7 million tonnes per year, JSW said in its Annual Report 2016-2017.
The company aims to commence mining at the earliest, while continuing to bid for more iron ore and coal mines, said Sajjan Jindal, the chairman and managing director of JSW Steel.
JSW Steel says its steel plants in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra are fitted with a combined installed capacity of some 18 million tonnes per year, with plans to raise this to 40 million tonnes per year in the next decade. The company also has operations in the US, Chile and Mozambique.
