Production on the rise In the second quarter of 2017, Russia’s leading nickel producer Norilsk Nickel has reported a consolidated palladium and platinum output of some 781 koz and 190 koz, a robust increase of 41% and 46% compared with the same period a year earlier, respectively.
"In 2Q17 our platinum group metals (PGMs) production increased substantially owing to the processing of built-up work-in-progress material which enabled us to offset the previous quarter decline," said Sergey Dyachenko, the company’s first vice president and chief operating officer, as quoted in a statement.
Norilsk Nickel says it is the world’s largest produer of refined nickel and palladium, and a leading producer of platinum, cobalt, copper and rhodium. In addition to this, the Russian company also produces gold, silver, iridium, selenium, ruthenium and tellurium. Norilsk Nickel operates production facilities located in Russia and Finland.
