Output to rise Cyprus-based copper miner Atalaya Mining has reported an increased production at its Proyecto Riotinto copper mine in Spain for 2017, up 42% year-on-year, and plans to further raise its production to between 37,000 and 40,000 tonnes this year.

The decision to increase the plants throughput to 15 million tonnes per annum marks another milestone in the regeneration of Proyecto Riotinto and we look forward to announcing revised reserves and resources in due course to meet this expansion, Alberto Lavendeira, the companys chief executive, said in a statement.

Atalaya Mining says the Proyecto Riotinto mine is its main asset. The company says its open-pit mine, located in Spains in Andalucía region, has certified ore reserves totalling 153 million tonnes of ore containing 680,000 tonnes of copper and fully operational large-scale processing facilities and infrastructure.
