Following a successful debut in Gaborone in 2017 where Hon. Tshekedi Khama, Botwana’s Minister for Environment, Natural Resources, Conservation & Tourism delivered the opening keynote address, the 2nd edition of Mining Investment Botswana (https://www.mininginvestmentbotswana.com/), continues to bring global and regional mining stakeholders to Botswana from 10 - 11 April and shine the spotlight on Botswana as a major mining destination in Africa.

South Africa has long dominated the mining industry in this region but as global investors and miners seek to diversify, it is timely to focus on the mineral rich country of Botswana. Botswana is most widely known globally for its diamond industry and the conference will look into how miners and investors can tap into potential new developments in this established diamond sector.

Besides that, Mining Investment Botswana will also look at the country’s mining sector from both macro and micro perspectives, namely:

• Economic diversification and its impact on Botswana mining industry

• Impact of global developments on Botswana e.g. electric car revolution

• Opportunities in other minerals - copper and coal

• How Botswana can promote itself as an investor friendly destination for global mining stakeholders

The inaugural event had attracted leading sponsors and exhibitors from South Africa and Botswana, including major locally based companies such as Botswana Oil. International attendees also came from as far as Australia to be a part of this event.

Mining Investment Botswana 2018 is shaping up to be of a similar scale, with a new conference stream focus called ‘MiningTech’ which focuses on the role of technology in the mining sector.
