The exploration company Mawson has started deep drilling in Ylitornio. Newly, the company received an exploration permit for the Rajapalo area, which currently employs two drilling equipment of four.
- The extension of the permit means an investment of 3 million euros and the employment of 70 people for the current winter alone, the company's bulletin explained.
During the deep drills in winter, the company is investigating the extent of the gold and cobalt mineral reserves in the area. At the beginning of February Mawson organized a public event in Ylitorni, where it presented its plans to local people.
The meeting held at the Ylitornio Town Hall gathered the interested people in the hall. The exploration company told that the attended public asked questions such as about the Limestone Mineral Reserve, the opening of a potential mine and changes to the Mining Act. Instead, on exploration in the Natura conservation area, there was only one person who directed a question to the company representatives.
