Production up Canada’s gold and silver miner Hecla Mining has reported improved preliminary silver and gold production results for the first quarter of 2019, with silver production increasing by 15% to 2.92 million oz and gold production expanding by 4% to more than 60,000 oz compared with the same period a year earlier.
“Silver production was higher in the quarter due to the standout performance from our most important mine, Greens Creek, with higher gold and silver grades and recoveries than the first quarter of 2018,” Phillips S. Baker, Jr., the president and CEO of Hecla Mining, said in a statement.
Hecla Mining says it operates mines in Alaska, Idaho and Mexico, and develops its gold production capacities in Canada’s Quebec. The Canadian business also operates exploration and pre-development properties in seven silver and gold mining districts in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
