Newmont Goldcorp has launched a new gold mine in Canada’s Ontario. The Borden facility, dubbed the ‘mine of the future’, is fitted with state-of-the-art health and safety controls, digital mining technologies and processes, and low-carbon energy vehicles, the miner said in a statement.
"Borden is expected to achieve commercial production in the fourth quarter of this year," Newmont Goldcorp said. "Ore from Borden is processed at the existing mill at the Company’s Porcupine operation in Timmins, 180 kilometers to the east."
Borden’s land package comprises 1,000 square kilometres, repre-senting "additional exploration upside as the Borden deposit remains open at depth," according to the miner.
Set up in 1921, Newmont Goldcorp has been publicly traded since 1925. The company’s asset portfolio is located in North America, South America, Australia and Africa. The Canadian business says it produces gold, copper, silver, zinc and lead.
