The company put Fortescue Metals, which is the fourth largest iron ore producer in the world, on top of a list which consists of 25 mining industry players. The Australian business is followed by US miner Newmont, Russia's Polyus, South African miner Gold Fields, and Australia's Newcrest Mining, respectively.

The remaining five companies that made GlobalData's list of the most promising mining companies include Canadian miner Kirkland Lake Gold, Brazil's Vale, UK-based Rio Tinto, Canada's Barrick Gold, as well as another Canadian miner, Kinross Gold.

The list also includes miners based in China, Cyprus, Japan, Swe-den, South Korea, and Switzerland, as indicated by GlobalData.
