Norwegian miner to pursue Ethiopian gold projects despite emergency state

Norwegian miner Akobo Minerals has an-nounced it will continue to develop its gold projects in Ethiopia despite the recent decision by the country’s authorities to impose a state of emergency.

“The company has not experienced any change in its ability to oper-ate at the Akobo project or in Addis Ababa and the majority of plans are unaffected. Akobo Minerals is currently drilling at the Segele pro-ject and Joru projects simultaneously,” the company said in a state-ment.

“To complement the drilling, surface exploration is underway in the areas surrounding the Segele project with the intention of identifying new targets. Work on the mining studies is also ongoing with social baseline study in progress at the project,” according to Akobo Miner-als.

The miner says it launched its activities in Ethiopia in 2009.
