Swedish mining equipment maker obtains Congolese contract

Swedish mining and infrastructure equipment maker Epi-roc has acquired a major order from Kamoa Copper SA for the deliv-ery of mining equipment that will be deployed to a large underground mine in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

 

Kamoa Copper has ordered Minetruck MT65 haulers which are the world’s highest payload underground truck in the field, and also Scooptram ST18 loaders and Boomer 282 face drilling rigs, Epiroc said ina. statement. The Swedish company will also provide on-site technical support and operator training to its customer.

 

The mine began commercial production in 2021, and it is being pow-ered by renewable hydro-generated electricity. Kamoa-Kakula is po-sitioned to become one of the world's largest copper-producing mines. The order is valued at about SEK 160 million (US$16.8 mil-lion), and it was booked in the first quarter of 2022, according to Epi-roc.
