Mining interrupted Zijin Bor Copper, the Serbia-based subsidiary of China's Zijin Mining Group, has decided to stop production activities at the company’s Novo Cerovo mine in Serbia’s eastern part.
The decision was made after a road blockade by local inhabitants interrupted the supply of raw materials to the facility, according to the information obtained by local news site Seenews.com.
Local residents have protested against mining activities carried out by the Chinese-owned company since earlier this year, claiming that the mine pollutes the environment throughout the region.
In a statement, Zijin Bor Copper says the company’s main activity is related to “the exploitation and processing of copper ore, production of cathode copper, gold, silver, sulfuric acid, copper II sulphate – pentahidrate, selenium, platinum and palladium.”
