Russia’s MMK invests $39M, expands galvanised steel output capacity

New investments Russias steel producer and metals company MMK has announced plans to invest more than RUB 2.3 billion ($39 million) in two projects to modernise and expand the capacities of its Russian facilities. 

 

The investments comprise the reconstruction of gas purifying plants at a mills electric-furnace melting shop, and the construction of aspiration systems for casting beds at blast furnaces, the company said in a statement. The latter investment will decrease dust emissions 50-fold.

 

Furthermore, MMK recently launched a new continuous hot-dip galvanizing unit which will increase its capacity to make galvanised steel by almost 20% to more than 2 million tonnes per year. 

 

Last year, the Russian company produced some 12.5 million tonnes of crude steel and 11.6 million tonnes of commercial steel products. MMK is based in Magnitogorsk, in the countrys south-eastern region of Chelyabinsk Oblast.
