Aluminium Corp of China (Chalco) is expected to invest $500m into a new bauxite production project in Guinea, according to the Chinese news agency Xinhua.

Bauxite is the major source used to make aluminium.

Guinea mines Minister Abdoulaye Magassouba recently visited China, and the deal follows similar investments in the nation by other Chinese companies.

The project lies in the Boffa area, about 200km from the Guinean Conakry. It will be executed in three phases, with the total investment going towards the first phase.
