The operator, Azimut Exploration of Longueuil, Que., and partners have discovered a new high grade surface showing at their Eleonore South gold project in the James Bay region. Composite channel samples returned assays as high as 79.6 g/t gold over 4.25 metres and 79.5 g/t over 5.87 metres.
The new discovery was made on the Moni prospect. Azimut says the high grade gold vein system is related to a network of quartz-feldspar veins and veinlets hosted in strongly altered tonalite. The tonalite is strongly altered and displays a network of regularly spaced quartz veins with feldspathic selvages (sheeted veins).
Phase one drilling at Eleonore South is now complete and the results are pending. The 3,600-metre phase 2 will be done from January to March 2018. Results are also pending from a heli-borne high definition magnetic survey, a lake bottom geochemical survey, and prospecting elsewhere on the property.
Azimut holds a 26.6% interest in the Eleonore South project, Eastmain Resources holds 36.7%, and Goldcorp holds 36.7%.
