Canadian miner to launch new gold mine in Nevada

First new gold mine in years Toronto-based miner McEwen is launching its Gold Bar project, in the U.S. state of Nevada. The open-pit mine is expected to produce some 65,000 ounces of gold per year over an eight-year mine life.

 

"Gold Bar is the first new gold mine in Nevada to gain permit approval in sveeral years. We advanced from Draft Environmental Impact Statement submittal to a Record of Decision in under eight months, a very brisk pace," said Rob McEwen, the companys chairman.

 

Operations in Nevada are expected to begin in late 2018.
