The goal is to secure supply down to the mine level for ten years, says Duesmann to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. The contract is ready for signature.

Volkswagen requested a similar bid for a ten-year contract to supply the cobalt car manufacturer with the latest Reuters news agency last autumn.

Demand for cleaner vehicles increases sharply in many parts of the world. In the United States, more than every 20th, BMW now sold "electrified", thus allowing at least shorter distances to run freely. And in China, next year, the requirement will be that at least every 10th new car should be able to use "new energy", which in most cases means full or partial battery operation.

US Tesla is currently the only self-evident car manufacturer with its own battery production. Others may struggle to buy from third-party manufacturers, which contributes to long waiting times for popular electric models like Hyundai Ionic Electric and VW E-Golf.
