Large companies like LKAB, Epicor, ABB and AB Volvo have formed a "unique" alliance to develop what they call the mining of the future. It should be digitized, autonomous and carbon-free.
The companies will start a test mine in the Malm fields in connection with LKAB's current mine in Kiruna. Even a virtual mine is created. In the mines, new technologies will be developed and tested, replacing the large diesel-powered fleet with electric vehicles.
According to today's industry, LKAB puts two billion kronor on the investment.
However, if the new project will give more or fewer jobs, it is unclear.
In production, there will be fewer jobs, but the hope is that we can increase the volume so that we will have approximately the same numerals as today, "says Jan Moström, CEO of a mining company at a joint press conference during Wednesday, according to the newspaper Norrländsk Socialdemokrat.
