- Southern Norrbotten in Sweden can become a new area that attracts prospectors, writes the newspaper Västerbotten Kurir, after taking part in a survey done by Geology administration SGU.
While the mineral resources in northern Norrbotten, Bergslagen, and Skellefteå fields are relatively well known, the southern parts of Norrbotten region are a white spot on the mineral map.
- This has been a white spot on the map earlier. The area has not been properly investigated, says Ildiko Antal, Unit Head of Economic Geology at SGU, to the newspaper.
The survey indicates that there are good opportunities for finding well-known minerals such as copper and iron here, but also graphite and various rare earth metals.
