Tahoe to continue talks with Guatemalan officials to reopen mine

Tahoe Resources announces that it will continue to maintain an open dialogue with Guatemalan officials and locals in order to resume operations at its flagship Escobal silver mine, one of the world’s largest.

Guatemala’s Constitutional Court last week upheld the suspension of licenses at Escobal mine.

According to Chief Executive, Jim Voorhees, the ruling was “disappointing” and “not the outcome we expected”

Voorhees told investors on a Monday conference call to discuss the dispute, but added: “We are focused on engaging in good faith”, as quoted by Reuters.

Operations at the Escobal mine were halted back in July of last year when the country’s Supreme Court suspended the licenses after an anti-mining organization appealed against the country’s Ministry of Energy and Mines.
